Special Offer Alert: discounted vacation packages

Wow! Two special offers in one day!

This latest discount is called “Play, Stay, Dine and Save!” Basically, in order to get this discount, you have to book a “Magic Your Way” 5 night/6 day vacation package that includes resort room, park tickets, and the Disney Dining Plan. The offer is valid on arrivals MOST nights 1/2/13 through 3/7/13. You have to book your vacation package by 12/31/12. For details, visit WDW’s Special Offers.

Is this offer as good as the Free Dining Plan that has been offered in the past? Nope. Here’s a quick comparison that I ran for a theoretical 6-day Magic Your Way vacation package during the Value Season, 5 people staying in a Moderate Resort:

1. Without the Disney Dining Plan: $2451.56

2. With the Dining Plan, not using the Special Offer: $3649.16

3. With the Dining Plan, using the Special Offer: $2630.83

So, for my family of five, I would save $1018.33 using this special offer. However, if Disney was offering the Free Dining Plan (like the discount we were able to take advantage of during last year’s Value Season), I would be saving $1197.60.

In conclusion, thank you, Walt Disney World, for NOT offering the free Disney Dining Plan for 2013’s Value Season, but instead offering this lesser discount. Had you offered your customary Free Dining Plan, I may have been tempted to give you several thousand dollars this January.
