Yesterday, the Disney Parks Blog announced MyMagic+. This is a way to “customize” your Disney World vacation that will be rolling out “over the next several months.” One part of MyMagic+ is My Disney Experience, which is both a mobile app and a component of WDW’s revamped website. I spent some time exploring this new tool yesterday.
Here’s what the new website looks like:
To take advantage of My Disney Experience, first you need to click “Sign In or Create Account” at the top, towards the right. Once you do, you’ll see this:
If you don’t have an account yet, go ahead and create one so you can join the fun! Once you’re all signed in, click “My Disney Experience” (again, on the right near the top of the page). This is what will greet you:
Below the welcome banner, there are all sorts of things to explore. You can link your existing resort reservations and dining reservations so that they appear as an itinerary. You can explore your resort, make dining reservations, and find things to do. You can update your profile with the Disney character of your choice, and list the family and friends with whom you travel. There is even a countdown for your next booked WDW vacation!
Perhaps most importantly, there’s an app:
Why is this so important? For now, the app lets you do things like check wait times for rides and shows, check on FastPass return times, view interactive park maps, and make dining reservations. If all goes as planned, the mobile app will be even more important in the months to come. The plan for My Disney Experience is that you will be able to reserve times for the most popular attractions so that when you show up at your chosen time, you won’t have to wait. This is part of the new FastPass+ system, which has been the subject of much debate among the Disney online community. Using this new system, you’ll be able to use the My Disney Experience mobile app to change your plans at any time. Have a FastPass+ time for Space Mountain but your day has taken an unexpected turn? Use the app to change your ride time. So, you can pre-plan your vacation as much as you want, but you still have the flexibility to change things as you go.
As someone who loves to plan vacations, I’m looking forward to using My Disney Experience and FastPass+. How do you feel about this change?
