Here is how Disney is marketing its latest Special Offer: “From first words to first steps to the first day of school, there are so many special “firsts” for families to experience. And now’s a terrific time to share Disney magic together for the first time—thanks to a special offer created for families with little ones.”
Sounds sweet, doesn’t it? Even though we’re well past the days of having little ones (our home is starting to resemble a frat house these days), I decided to compare this latest Special Offer to the “Play, Stay, Dine and Save” offer previously released by Disney World. I used vacation dates of 1/25/14 – 1/29/14 for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids (9 & under) staying at Port Orleans Riverside (the most affordable place on WDW property for a family of 5 with all kids above crib age). This is how it breaks down:
Play, Stay, Dine and Save: $2547.63
Families With Little Ones: $2547.55
Yes, there was a whopping 8 cents difference in the prices of the two vacation packages. Both examples include 5-day base tickets (no Park Hopper) for the parks, the Disney Dining Plan, and a Garden View room. Both offers are valid for most stays 1/5/14 – 3/5/14. Both offers must be booked by 12/31/13. In short, this new Special Offer seems to be merely a repackaging of the prior offer to appeal to, well, families with little ones. That’s not to say I’m discouraging anyone from going to Disney World. I jut think it’s kind of funny that they basically recycled an offer that’s already out there.
Again, I just priced it out for Port Orleans Riverside. Other resorts may have more of a price difference for the two different Special Offers. If you’re planning a trip for that time period, price it out under both offers and see which works best for you. Happy planning!
