Tusker House: a hidden gem

I’d never really heard much about Tusker House. When it comes to character dining, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Crystal Palace, and Chef Mickey’s get a lot of the glory.  Prior to our vacation, while looking for a good place to lunch at Animal Kingdom (which would most emphatically not be Pizzafari), I stumbled across a description of the Tusker House buffet lunch. African, Indian, and American food all in one place? Characters that come around while you eat? Sitting in air conditioning? Sign me up!

We loved our Tusker House lunch. Located in the Africa section of Animal Kingdom, it was a short stroll from our Safari to the restaurant. First, you get your picture taken with Donald in safari gear. Then, when your pager goes off, you are shown to your table. Fill your plate at the many (and varied) food stations, then sit in air conditioned comfort while you eat. Mickey, Daisy, and Goofy will all visit your table while you’re there. They even do a character/kid parade part way through the meal. It’s fantastic and fun!

Tasty beverages on a hot day!

Goofy wouldn't leave our table until I got up and hugged him! I kid you not.
